ABOUT THE SHOW

Inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 “Four Freedoms” address and the images Norman Rockwell created to bring those ideals into everyday American life, Four Freedoms: For the Common Man transforms Copland’s music into a living portrait of democracy. Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man opens as a bold declaration of Freedom of Speech, a public call that insists every voice matters. The grandeur and searching power of Symphony No. 3 turns inward to illuminate Freedom of Worship—the quiet strength of conscience and belief. In The Promise of Living, community and hope bloom into Freedom from Want, where a shared future is built on dignity and belonging. And as The Red Pony surges forward, the story rises into Freedom from Fear, protecting the future so it can run free—before the fanfare returns to unite all four freedoms in one final, resounding promise for the common man.
